Trunk sale will benefit church kitchen project
With the economic recovery still at a trickle, the Centennial Society, a womens group at Union Congregational Church in Elk River, is trying something new to raise funds.
The women are holding what Janelle Johnson calls a trunk sale at the church from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 2.
Johnson says the group has eight participants so far, and hopes they will get 20 to 25 people to load their trunks or their truck beds with goods to sell.
She says people can expect to find furniture, crafts, produce and other new and used items for sale.
Food such as hot dogs, popcorn and soft drinks will be available as well for purchase.
Johnson says the event will include the always-popular bake sale and a book sale, too.
Exotic animals will also be on church grounds for people to see from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. as long as the weather cooperates.
Proceeds from the trunk sale will go toward helping renovate the church kitchen, which Johnson estimates will cost between $20,000 and $60,000 to complete.
Union Congregational Church is located at 1118 Fourth St. in Elk River near the Dairy Queen.
