There are plenty of ways to be able to cook outside. And when you ask any person who likes to make his or her meals this way, you will discover several differing opinions about what is an effective way to do this activity. You can probably find 2 main approaches to prepare food outside and that is with the bbq grill or using an electric smoker.

Quite a few will probably express that utilizing the bbq grill is the simplest way. this way of cooking is a great way to prepare meals inside a reasonably short time and it is usually the very first technique which is mastered by many. Anybody that uses this method may have various views as to which is much better your wood grill, the propane grill or the charcoal grill.

Those within the alternative camp may rave about how exactly smoker cooking may be the greatest path. this is a lengthy method but provides a very scrumptious, moist flavorful meal. And also, again, those that promote this technique will be divided as to the greatest smoker whether it is gas, wood, or electric.

The two techniques have got their pluses and minuses but the one which We like is definitely smoker cooking.

Exactly what Is A Smoker?

The majority of cookers don’t provide the heat on to the actual food. They’re built so that the fire is usually within an offset fire chamber. this is to ensure that the heat and smoke can move about and thru the actual meat indirectly. The food won’t ever come in direct contact with the fire therefore is not going to get burned. Additionally, because the meat isn’t straight above the fire, any juices or even fats which could fall won’t cause the flame to flare up.

Possibly the biggest distinction between bbq cooking and smoker cooking is the wood is employed to create flavorful smoke and not just the heat. there are lots of varieties of wood which you can use in your smoker. The various kinds will give you a very different taste.

The most popular wood to make use of is that of the hickory tree. this creates a heavy, smoky taste. The smoke created by way of wood coming from fruit trees such as apple and pecan will produce a lighter, sweeter flavor. One more wood which is used within the south west is that of the mesquite tree.

If You Are An Impatient Person, Don’t Make use of a Smoker

If you prefer a meal which will end up being prepared in a short period of time, smoker cooking is not for you. it is a procedure which requires more time compared to it would using the bbq grill. this is due to the fact that the meat is not positioned straight above the heat source. Obviously, the period of time will differ with the kind of meat and the temperature inside the smoker.

When you’re smoking a piece of meat that weighs about four pounds this should take a lot more than 2 hours. however, cooking a similar piece of meat on a bbq grill may require much less than an hour or so.

What might You Smoke?

The only limitation in regards to what you can cook on the smoker can be your imagination. any kind of meat that you can cook on a kitchen stove or a bbq grill, you can cook on the smoker. You will discover many quality recipes for cooking all kinds of different meats. some of the more popular meals include pork ribs, fish, chicken, turkey, and the well-known beef brisket.

Combined with various flavors you’re going to get from the woods, you can alter the flavor through the use of the meal by the way you season your dish. One other way to further improve the taste would be to place fresh fruit juices inside a dish over the heat source. I have used pineapple as well as apple juices with a little garlic in the bowl to create an extremely different taste.

There are many ways to cook outdoors. And you will find the majority of cooks will have their own favorite method and will reason that their own way is better. But, one way that i have discovered to create brilliant meals is thru the use of smoker cooking.

This unique kitchen concept by Antoine Lebrun is much more than meets the eye. When closed, it looks like a kitchen planter with lots of nice greenery growing on top. But when it’s open, it reveals a workspace, cooking surface, and sink. this kitchen comes with the coolest secret ever: those plants on top provide natural soap to clean the workspace, sink, and dishes whenever the top is closed. Don’t plan on owning it anytime soon, though; Lebrun designed the kitchen for Fagor Brandt as an idea of what will be possible for kitchens in ten years.

The ALight Kitchen was designed with the intention of making the kitchen a more sustainable place. the unit houses a smart oven which reads the barcodes from pre-packaged foods (packed only in sheet metal, of course) to cook the food efficiently. the integrated dining table features hollow reversible plates and a flatware holder. And best of all, the built-in dishwasher recycles wash water to cut down on water consumption.

Chefs cook up dream kitchen

A lot of homes today boast a chef's kitchen, but few can boast a kitchen designed by two chefs.

Fran and Michele Beebe can do just that. Eight years ago, they left their corporate careers and McMansion in suburban Cincinnati for warm weather and a new passion: cooking.

Since then, they have worked to create the perfect retirement and the perfect home.

Fran is an avid cook since his days as a single dad. it didn't hurt that his mom had been a New Jersey state cooking champion. when he retired from a 30-year sales, marketing and global logistics career at Proctor & Gamble, he considered studying at Le Cordon Bleu in France.

Then Le Cordon Bleu invited him to visit its U.S.-based flagship school in Scottsdale.

"We knew we wanted to live in the Southwest," Fran said. "It felt like the stars were aligning."

Michele, who had a career in sales, shared Fran's culinary interest and loved the idea of embarking on a challenging journey together.

"We really wanted to reinvent ourselves," Fran said.

Both now are graduates of the Scottsdale Culinary Institute and have a kitchen that fits them perfectly.

Five years ago, they moved into their new Tuscan-inspired Superstition Mountain home, where the two often cook for family and friends. in fact, their two guest rooms are rarely empty these days, given the lush setting and gourmet getaway they offer.

The Superstition Mountain development, opened in 1998, has cobblestone-look driveways, stucco-and-stone villas with tile roofs and courtyards dripping with bougainvillea.

Michele said her father put it best when he first saw their old World abode, tucked into a tight-knit community surrounding two Jack Nicklaus-designed golf courses: "He said it's like coming to Oz."

In the kitchen, they wanted all the bells and whistles chefs need, but with the comfort of a luxury home rather than the stark feel of a commercial cooking space. They also wanted it to be fairly compact and efficient, making it easy to move between stations.

"Don't confuse big with better," Fran, 62, said about the space they spent months planning. "Most commercial kitchens are not that big."

Michele, 45, said they broke the record for the number of changes and upgrades to their semi-custom home.

"In all fairness, they built us a custom home," she said.

Dawn Anderson, a Gilbert interior designer and former design-center manager at Superstition Mountain, said the Beebes' home was one of her most challenging and rewarding projects.

"They really made it their own," Anderson said. "We took the base model of the kitchen and completely transformed it. The number of appliances and specialty items we put in this kitchen was just amazing. it has its own little hidden secrets around every corner."

First, they traded out a breakfast room to extend a large, tiered kitchen island in honed granite. The island's center holds a Kohler trough sink with faucets at each end, so both chefs can work simultaneously on separate sides.

One end of the island is a small breakfast bar, where guests often gather to watch them work. There's also space to linger near two wine refrigerators and lighted stemware cabinets at one kitchen entrance.

"What we've tried to create is a sense of theater when we do cook, so that people can be part of the experience," Fran said.

Still, the Beebes decided against an open floor plan with a kitchen in full view of the family and dining areas. They wanted serene spaces separate from the chaos of dirty pots and pans. Hence, the formal living room opens to a fountain on one patio.

Inside, the kitchen is filled with high-performance stainless-steel appliances that don't overtake the space. They fade into the woodwork of the two-tone knotty alder cabinetry (in distressed brown and soft bisque), the khaki walls and the terra-cotta ceiling.

Fran researched all the appliances to find what he deemed the best performers. There's a built-in Miele coffeemaker that can brew a latte with the push of a button, two Miele wall ovens, a Miele steam oven and humidity-controlled warming drawers and two Bosch dishwashers. There's even a KitchenAid mixer on an "elevator" that pulls up from a storage cabinet and snaps into place at the perfect height.

Two built-in appliances they love are their high-performance wok stove and a deep fryer. The Beebes said they've never seen another residential kitchen with the setup, and they're surprised more serious cooks haven't added them.

Their showstopper piece is undoubtedly the French-Top Wolf stove with a pot-filler faucet and a stainless-steel backsplash. also eye-catching are the scrolled-iron chandelier over the island that doubles as a pot rack and two stainless Wolf vent hoods that keep tempting odors out of the drapes and upholstery.

Just outside the kitchen is a Viking grill on their covered patio, which also serves as an outdoor living and dining room. The space adjoining the family room, has an elaborate fireplace and large dining table with far-reaching views of the Superstition Mountain Golf Club's Prospector course.

One kitchen gadget they don't display? a microwave.

"Chefs don't use microwaves very much," Fran said, adding that they do have a small one in the pantry/utility room off the kitchen.

The rest of the home is just as carefully planned.

The two-story foyer features a staircase in dark, reclaimed pine faced with handpainted Mexican tile. a reading-nook window at the top of the stairs frames one of many beautiful views of the Superstitions, as does a balcony in the upstairs guest room.

Another fun feature of the home is his-and-hers office space. The compact adjoining rooms upstairs allow Fran and Michele their own computers and different decor. Her office is light and bright, filled with pastel fabric bulletin boards and rolls of wrapping paper. in his dark-green and brown study, Fran displays the collection of bird decoys that were hand carved by his father.

Michele said the rooms give them personal space for hobbies and sentimental knickknacks that otherwise wouldn't have a place in the three-bedroom, three-bath, 3,300-square-foot home.

"We live in every inch of our house," Michele said. "For us, this is the perfect-sized home."

To maximize space, they used armoires in lieu of closets in the two guest rooms. The upstairs guest room also seamlessly ties a Southwest theme into their Tuscan home, starting with a framed Navajo rug and elegant bedding and upholstery that harken to Western and Native American themes.

Initially, the Beebes planned to start a catering business or work at bed-and-breakfasts as visiting chefs. Fran is famous for his secret-recipe chocolate-chip cookies - just one of which weighs a full quarter-pound. Michele said he could easily sell "Mr. Fran's Cookies" - a play on the Mrs. Field's brand.

But for now, they're content staying retired and cooking for family and friends.

For three years, the Beebes lived in a 1,000-square-foot apartment in old Town Scottsdale until their studies and dream home were complete. Today, they say they're close enough to the Valley's restaurant scene but just far enough removed from the hustle and bustle to relax.

"We kept coming back here because we loved the view," Fran said.

"Once you get here," Michele added, "it's hard to leave."

1273738336 Wood Kitchen Tables – Perfect For Old Fashioned Family Meetings

Author: Jesse Akre, Source: isnare.com

When was the last time you had the family together for a good talk? Likely not as recently as you should have.

With today’s busy world where parents are always going one way and the kids are always involved with something else, it’s not surprising there isn’t much time for family togetherness.

Another possible problem is that your kitchen isn’t set up for family meetings. What kind of kitchen furniture do you have? many people use breakfast bars or small bistro tables. But, these are not spacious enough for family meetings. You need good old-fashioned wood kitchen tables.

Something about wood kitchen tables lets everyone know that business is to be conducted here, but also that there is no pretense to the situation. Wood kitchen tables have an air of no-nonsense, and feel like a place where accomplishments are being made.

These aspects make wood kitchen tables the perfect place to hold a family meeting.

When you decide it’s time for a family meeting, you need to give the whole family time to get to it. if you are going to talk about what is going on in everyone’s life, you don’t want them to come to the table frazzled because you pulled them out of the middle of something they were doing. Select a specific time for the meeting, and let everyone know well in advance so it can be added to their calendar.

Next, make the family meeting environment an inviting one. It’s time to have those wood kitchen tables do more than just be objects to sit around. Instead, set the wood kitchen tables with snacks and drinks so everyone feels like there’s a little something to enjoy when they get to the table.

Don’t be late. when you tell the kids what time they are supposed to be meeting around the wood kitchen tables, you need to set the example. Be the first one there and be ready to talk as soon as the first of the children arrive. Patience is short for most children, so as soon as the first child takes a seat at the wood kitchen tables, make sure to engage him or her in conversation so they don’t get bored and want to scoot away from the table.

Once the whole family has been assembled around the wood kitchen tables, it’s time to get down to business. a parent should moderate the meeting and move around the table asking everyone what is going on in their life.

You should also set ground rules for the conversation; such as there are no critical comments and that everyone should be supportive of one another.

If you have children that don’t answer the ‘what’s happening in your life” question well, you can try more pointed questions such as ‘what’s a great thing that happened this week?’, ‘what do you want to accomplish in the week to come?’ or ‘was there anything that got on your nerves this week?’

As the parent, you should listen to your child’s feelings and discuss anything that you think needs further scrutiny.

Once the meeting is done, set a time for the next one, clean up the wood kitchen tables and appreciate those moments of family togetherness.
