Joel Houghton, in 1850, patented his invention – a wooden machine that had a wheel turned by hand that can splash water on dishes. the invention was not a big help for the housewives, however, it was the first patented on early dishwasher version. not until 1893 that the machine that actually did the dishwashing job was invented. the person who invented the machine was Josephine Cochran. the machine was exhibited on the World’s fair in 1893, but at that time, only big restaurants and hotels that bought the machine. the machine was a mechanical dishwasher operated by hand.
